After being left out of the College Football Playoff, Notre Dame let the world know that they would not be participating in a bowl game.
They had originally been selected to play in the Pop Tarts Bowl against BYU, another team that fell just short of the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Honestly? It’s a little soft coming from a brand that prides themselves as one of College Football’s biggest and best.
Sure, you don’t have to like what the committee did. Afterall, it was kind of a rug pull for having Notre Dame ahead of Miami every week until the final bracket was made.
But just because you got screwed by the CFP committee doesn’t mean you should “take your ball and go home”.
What about the seniors who won’t get to play their “last game”? Or the walk-ons who’ve been waiting for their moment? It seems very reactionary to immediately decline to participate in a bowl game.
To me, it signifies that Notre Dame doesn’t love football; they love recognition. And when the don’t get it their way? They’re more than willing to pout about it rather than use the “snub” as motivation to fuel a potential huge bowl game matchup.
What do you think?
